And what do YOU have to say? – P. RAINEZ – interview no.8

on 14/02/2015

A romantic lady has joined me today to make this Valentine’s Day even more special. A tireless workaholic with a heart of gold, Phoenix will lure you into a world of heartbeats and kisses, spectacular scenery and passionate whispers. So put on your romance dress&tie, and read away into sunset.

1. What makes you want to write romance?

I am an incurable romantic, always have been ever since I was a child and read all those romantic stories like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and when I saw Romeo and Juliet in my teens, I was hooked into the world of Romance with a capital “R” So it was the most natural thing on earth for me to start writing romance stories of my own. Although I did start by writing romantic poetry first.

2. What is your personal favourite romantic couple of all times?

Without a doubt it would have to be Romeo and Juliet.

3. When you write romance, do you have some real people or actors in mind?

No. My characters are purely fictional and have no connection to anyone real or for that matter any characters I’ve read about or seen in films. They are new to me and I learn about them while I write.

4. Do you get writer’s block? How do you pull yourself out?

Yes I do and it can take me as long as a day or two to pull myself out. I step away from the story completely and write poetry and if that doesn’t work, I have a heart to heart chat with my Beta Reader. He is worth his weight in gold. Somehow he finds a way of getting me back on track. To be honest I’d be lost without him.

5. What do your friends and family think about you as a writer?

My husband is very supportive and encouraging. My friends love my stories and really glad I finally decided to publish. My daughters were a little sceptical but I think they now realise how serious I am and support me too. Although they do think their Mother has become a little eccentric. But then I’m a writer so I have an excuse.

6. What’s the most difficult thing about writing?

For me, it’s finding the time. Between family commitments, work and studies there isn’t a lot of time and usually end up being rather anti-social so I can spend time lost in the world of my characters.

7. Would you like to try writing in a different genre? Which and why?

To be honest, I don’t think I would, even if I could, which I know I can’t. I have tried to write a 2000 word story for a Scifi contest and after reading it back, tore it up and threw it away. Romance is my middle name. Fantasy Romance, Paranormal Romance, Steamy Romance. Anything to do with Romance is me.

8. Do you find it difficult to write scenes involving physical intimacy?

No. I read Fifty Shades and learn’t a lot from that trilogy and have since read several books in that theme. After reading a romantic novel that delved into the deeper aspect of this theme I have since written my own, but it won’t be ready for release till 2016.

9. What is the one genre you think you would never write?

Science Fiction. Although I do love watching certain SciFi films, its just not something I can get my head around writing.

10. How do you want your readers to feel after reading your books?

Romantic of course. I want them to grab hold of their partners and love them like there is no tomorrow.

11. Would you like to add anything about your current work or send a message to the readers?

Second Chances is my debut novel. It’s a New Adult Romance aimed at the young at heart, 18+  It’s a story that starts at the end and ends at the beginning. I have been asked what I mean by that. Louisa’s “happily ever after” is right at the beginning of the story, but life throws her a curve ball and you’ll have to read the book to find out what happens.

My message to readers is simply if you enjoy the novel you are reading, tell the author by writing a review. If you didn’t enjoy the book, don’t write a bad review. Remember what you don’t enjoy reading someone else might.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
