On this day in 1873, this amazing lady was born. You may not have heard of her, but she is one of the most influential authors of Croatia, a strong woman before her time, one of those who fight convention with reason and dignity and remain true to themselves.
Her books on Croatian history made me love history, see the beauty, romance and tragedy in it, feel the people in it and wonder about why, not only when. She made me love history, books and romance, where fifty shades of grey meant the most romantic and loving details we notice about our loved ones, such as the proud rustle of a countess’s skirt, the troubled twitch of the dark man’s eyebrow, and the slightest touch of a hand.
Her name is Marija Jurić Zagorka, and reading her books makes lives richer.
