On depression, through pink glasses…

HOW TO CURE DEPRESSION?

Oh dear, what a ridiculous question!
Sounds like an add for a self-help book.
You ´re fed up with it half way through reading,
but the add still made you look.

So let me try to be a proper genius
and solve the problems of humanity,
to help myself and some friends
save what ´s left of our souls and sanity.

To cure depression it is truly essential
to first know what not to mention.
So let ´s ban any talk about money –
that will instantly relieve the tension.

Words like sad and tired and busy
should be stricken from every record.
And every negative suffix or prefix
should be sliced away with the mind ´s sword.

When we speak, the words should have a melody,
or the scent of the orange when peeled,
so fresh and full of sparkling promise,
like in spring – a daisy-filled grassy field.

When we think, our minds must be clear
like the mountain spring giving us water.
Our lips should do regular fitness –
smiling at partner, son or daughter.

And when we sip on that warm cup of coffee,
as our daydreams float on its flavour,
let ´s send a positive thought to a friend-
´cause friends are how life does us a favour.

PS: Nothing personal, just trying to laugh my depression away;)

CHANGE – story flash

The steam from the tea she was serving mistified the room. The soothing scent shared its energy with the people in the room.
She felt as if she was walking on an invisible cloud, soundless and detached, yet present just the same.
The first moments in that house seemed so distant now, the repulsion she had felt towards the customs, the aversion to being so quiet, the unnerving slow-motion of it all.
But now, it all was all gaining depth for her. Something invisible she had been unable to see, but was now accustomed to feeling, and embraced it. She felt herself pulled into the artistry of it all, the beautiful designs, scents, movements, sounds and colours… The more she got into the character, the more she realized this was the character she would like to hide in for a while… or forever. And perhaps she hadn’t even changed.
She placed another cup of tea on the table. Yes, it really was her reflected in the beverage. Her real self.

FEAR

Beneath the sands of time,
Buried and burdened and heavy,
Lay my anger, my frustration and my fear.
Humming like a mean dragon,
Allienated in his cave,
Hiding, but here, ready to charge.
He listens and awaits
His dreadful cue,
Breathing deeply, eyes open, claws ready on the ground.

Silence draws him to the entrance,
Curiosity conquers fear.
He peeks outside.
Sunlight melts away his frustration,
Like water colors  washed away.
He steps out, claws drawn in.
The smell of spring fills his nostrils.
Anger conquered in a puff.

He shakes off the sands of time from his wings,  spreads them and soars.
Happy.

BREATHE, BELIEVE, BASK

Breathe!

Take each breath
Deeply
Calmly
Seriously
For not everyone is free to have it
Not everyone can breathe easily
Not everyone’s air is breathable

Believe!

Believe in dragons
Fairies
Unicorns
Magic
Love
Miracles
Friendship
Slimming chocolate
Honest politicians
The honesty of children
Ghosts
Angels
Believe in whatever makes you tick
Whatever gets you going
Whatever makes you a better person

And bask!

Never forget to bask in the sunlight
Of your success
In the shelter
Of your friends
In the gratitude
Of those you helped
In knowing
You were helped

Breathe
Believe
And bask

And don’t rush
Don’t panic
Don’t skip
Don’t delay

Breathe each day fully
Day by day
Believe every dream without
Faltering, unswayed
And
Bask
Take your time
To enjoy every breath
To feed every belief
To bask in your dreams
